Excellent write up. This was the TICKET right here for, 'We have to be clear in our minds that scale does not equal growth. Often when things get big we sacrifice or neglect what we cannot quantify with immediate value. We celebrate the new members coming in, yet will often fail to nurture them.'

There will have to be more conversations with decision makers [in companies wanting community because it sounds trendy and revenue generating], about these wide gaps. Scale does not equal growth. Community is not social media management. ROI is often not immediate or even tangible within first 12mos of a community.

Essentially, I see a need for large scale expectation setting LOL

Yes....and community is not social media management, but that doesn't mean we can't use social media to build community.
