Getting started

I'm hoping to get some advice on how to get started with building a community. Our startup is currently building our product and we're hoping to build our community alongside it. We are stuck on how to go from zero to the first 10 - 20 members when we don't yet have any customers. Any tips on how to get things started? Also wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where the best place to find talent to hire to help us with this? Thanks!

Hi Andrea! First I would ask..."Do we need a community? Or do we need an audience?" What differentiates a community is that the members have a mutual concern for one another, and there is some level of desire to help/engage with one another. I would start by conducting research on your ideal community participants. I touched on some research questions in my recent blog post (but honestly this a BIG topic and my questions only touch the surface): jennydotcommunity.substack.com/p/w.... Hope this helps!

Hi Jenny! What if you need community? I am building a product that will benefit from the community. I want to create a Forem community and gain some relevant users. But I don't know where to start.

edit: I mean I don't know where to start gaining users and community creating. I can handle technical things.

This is very helpful, Jenny. I didn't think about the difference between an audience and a community. Thank you!
