TL;DR: what are the pros and cons associated with starting your community as a Facebook group, then later migrating to a bigger platform?

Hi Noele! This was great!! Thank you so much for sharing your framework with us. I didn't get to tune in live, so I have a question about migrating from a Facebook group to a bespoke platform.

Was this a deliberate strategy i.e. to build quickly on FB groups then shift across?

Reason I ask is, I'm about to deliver the concept to my Executive team on why we should build a community. The feedback I have been given from my executive is how quickly can we do this, and how do we know our members care? I've explained (and will continue to do so) that Community takes time. But he's asked if we can start with a FB group just to see if there's appetite for it.

My worry is, that by doing this we later risk losing some of these engaged members and their content when we migrate over. OR my other worry is the executive then sayin 'FB group is working well, let's keep our community here'.

What are some of the pros and cons you experienced with this approach?

Love some feedback and / or ideas on this approach the extended group actually.
