Facebook Group Report Question

Hi all, I'm new to this community and happy to be here! Not long ago I started a new position as a community manager and a Facebook Group was decided as the venue for the company's community. I am building an OKR report to share on a monthly basis and in it I am reporting on:

  • total members
  • active members
  • month over month growth

I am using Facebook's built-in report on active users to get the data for my report to the team.

But somehow for December, the active member number exceeds the total member count of the group.

Has anyone else expeirenced this and if so any ideas on what is happening?

Maybe it is not clear enough on how Facebook compiles that data set?

Facebook can be so weird! Are you looking at the insights tab within the site, or did you download the data? With the "# active members" that they put above the bar graph, while I haven't seen my number exceed the total members number, I have found this number to be finicky. A while ago, I was adjusting the date filters, and the number didn't change at all. Now it does, but I've already moved away from even trying to use that number.

I suspect that there is something about unique active users in that number, but I'm not 100% sure. I would also suspect that maybe you had a few members leave the group, so the member # you see today is different than the active #? I usually download all the data and then grab the MAX active and MAX members for the month. The max active will be lower than the other number FB shows (I've attached a screenshot from one of our smaller groups to show the difference) but I am more confident in it, so I stick by it.

That is so crazy that a company like Facebook cannot get something like that right. But good to know Iā€™m not alone and there is a work around! Thank you for sharing.
